The story is told in flashbacks set during a 1947 testimony William Moulton Marston gives to representatives of the Child Study Association of America. William and his wife Elizabeth are teachers at Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges in 1928, when William hires a new teaching assistant named Olive Byrne, the niece of Margaret Sanger. Elizabeth notes William’s interest in having sex with Olive (despite her already being engaged), initially permitting William to pursue his interest but then crudely warning Olive not to have an affair with him.
